Mystery of the Green Fireball

People living in the Pacific north west were started to see a glowing green Fireball at 6-15 a.m. On Tuesday 17th December 1996. it was approaching from the Western horizon.
The green Fireball came to within 500 feet of an early commiter in Maple valley Washington and then about off in an easterly direction towards Wenatchee.
People living in king and Snolomish counties reported seeing the fireball go down near Richmond Beads on Puget Sound.
In an interview with the Seattle Tines the king county sheriff said that his department received many calls about the fireball from residents of Issaewah and Bellivue.
The federal aviation administration also reported receiving calls from skgit country Washington and as far south as Tigard, Oregan and Salem Gregon.
Radio station KLKI received 40 phone calls about the fireball from people in Anacortes north of Seattle.
280 miles away east of Seattle Radio station also received 40 phone calls from eye witnesses who claimed the fireball was heading for Idaho .
In courtenay British Columbia a man named O’Carrol was scraping the snow from wind shield of his car when suddenly the neighbouring houses began to glow with a feeble green light. Looking up he saw a huge flaming sparking greenish blue light ball which appeared to be throwing off white sparks. The fireball hurted towards the Eastern horizon.
Mr. O’Carrol said that there was quite a boom and he wondered what is was.
The National UFO reporting center in Seattle reportedly said two meteors were responsible for the sighting.
The FAA duty officer in Renton, Washington said the light was not caused by any aircraft and said was properly a meteorite, perhaps one of the Geminids.
It was highly unlikely that it was one of the Geminids meteors. That showers ended at 7 p.m. on December 14th, whereas the sighting was on December 17.
It however is still a mystery what caused it.
